Judge won his first AL MVP award in seven years with 62 hits and 131 Rbis in 157 games, breaking the 61-year AL record for most hits in a season. He finished second in batting.31.

Otani also batted 2.73 with 34 home runs and 95 Rbis in 157 games. He made 28 starts as a pitcher, going 15-9 with a 2.33 defense percentage.

The American media "Sports Illustrated" pointed out that Judge accomplished what no one had done in a long time, but Ohtani completed one of the greatest seasons in the history of the Major League, creating an all-time record.

Otani, who scored 420 points in the AL MVP vote last year, finished with 280 points to Judge's 410 for Blue Jays heavyweight Vladimir Guerrero Jr. 's 269.

Sports Illustrated noted that there have been so many statistics about Otani's strong performance this year that the MLB.com website posted one and retired A's left-hander Dallas Braden took notice to share a message on his Twitter feed.

Breeden threw the 19th complete game in major league history on May 9, 2010. He retired in 2014 due to injury and now works as a TV pitch commentator. Sports Illustrated pointed out that only four major league teams this season have hitters with more than 30 home runs, more than 90 Rbis, and pitchers with an average of less than 2.50. Ohtani is the only one who has both set a record.
